Sauris ( Zahre in the local Germanic dialect , Sauris in Friulian ) is a common spread of 422 inhabitants of the province of Udine . The municipal seat is in the village of Sauris below. It is the highest village of Friuli Venezia Giulia (1212 m above sea level ) and German-speaking linguistic island. The town is
formed by Sauris di Sotto (Town Hall) and Sauris di Sopra and villages of Lateis, Main and Field. Located in the mountainous region of Carnia in Val Lumiei , boasts in its territory, the presence of a magnificent lake (Lake Sauris ), a reservoir of the largest in Friuli , created by the damming of the river Lumiei. Sauris di Sopra is locally known Plotsn and Sauris di Sotto Dorf, it seems that the name derives from a pre-Latin "Savira", "river".
The main peaks that surround Sauris and its surroundings are: Dear Col (2,075 m), Mount Tarondon (2,019 m), Mount Pieltinis (2,027 m) of the Crodon Tiarfin (2413 m), Monte Bivera (2,474 m), Mount Zauf (2,245 m), Monte Tinisa (2,080 m). Legend has it that the community was founded around Sauris XIII - fourteenth century by two German soldiers who were tired of war, they fled their country seeking refuge in this isolated valley and steep. It seems that immigration is merged into the valley of Lessac and Pusteria in the thirteenth century .
THE PARTY:
The most important gastronomic event dedicated to ham Carnia. The festival takes place in two rounds of 12 and 20 July, proposes degustazione di piatti a base di prodotti locali (prosciutto e speck, formaggi, gnocchi, piccoli frutti e dolci, vini e birra) all'interno di stand dislocati nei caratteristici borghi di Sauris, accompagnati da musica itinerante e con la presenza di un mercatino dei prodotti artigianali ed agro-alimentari.
